On-duty NYPD officer charged with DWI after shooting partner


On duty detective Jay Poggi accidently shot his partner on the wrist at 1:50 a.m. while driving to a Queens location as part of an investigation. The partner was a 12-year-old veteran. Poggi rushed his partner to Jamaica Hospital where he required surgery and has been in a stable condition.
Poggi’s blood alcohol level at the time of incident was .113 when the legal limit is .08 His license has been suspended and has been released on his own recognizance. Poggi’s lawyer argues that even under the influence, he looked after his partner’s safety.
