Man Arrested While Driving Drunk -- On A Horse

If Florida on Monday, 29-year-old Charles Larkin Cowart led police on a half-hour drunken chase. But it wasn't a car he was driving, but a horse!

Police took very careful consideration when dealing with the situation and did everything they could to not spook the horse and worsen the situation.  They used their lights to stop traffic, but kept their sirens quiet.

Police ordered Cowart to get off the horse several times, to which he, "in an aggressive manner reared the horse back" and continued to run with the horse. He did eventually jump down and then took off on foot, but was captured just a short time later.

Cowart was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest without violence and cruelty to animals. Earlier this month he was also arrested for petty theft, as well as a DUI in October of 2010.

But don't worry -- the horse was returned to the Cowart's home and is doing just fine!

Drunk Driver Hits 8 Cars

Jorge Silva-Santana, 46, of Peoria, was arrested for driving northbound on a southbound road in Phoenix. After colliding with the first four vehicles, he managed to keep going and hit three more further up the road, and then further up once more which is when his car stopped and caught fire.

Silva-Santana was tested under suspicion of a DUI and was discovered to have almost three time the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Among the DUI, he was also charged for various traffic violations including endangerment.

Another example of an irresponsible driver putting others in danger by selfishly driving drunk.

4 dead, 8 injured after suspected drunk driver plows into bus stop in Vegas

A Las Vegas man faces four counts of driving under the influence resulting in death after his speeding car rolled over Thursday and plowed into a Las Vegas bus stop, killing four pedestrians and injuring several other people.
The Thursday morning crash killed three women and a man waiting at the bus stop, police said. Three others at the stop and five people in the car were injured.

"It's a pretty horrific scene out here," Las Vegas police officer Laura Meltzer.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. PDT when the car went out of control and left the roadway as going through an intersection.

"The vehicle began to roll over as it struck a total of seven pedestrians sitting on/near a bus bench," police said in a release

Driver Gary Lee Hosey Jr., 24, was hospitalized in serious condition. Police said Thursday night that he was booked in absentia on four counts of DUI-death.

The dead -- women ages 47, 49, and 65, and a 24-year-old man -- were all Las Vegas residents but their names were being withheld pending notification of relatives, police said.
In addition to Hosey, four passengers in his car and three others waiting at the bus stop were also injured. Police said one person suffered minor injuries, while the others were hospitalized with injuries ranging from serious to critical.

At least some of the occupants had to be removed from the vehicle, police said.

Debris and sheet-covered bodies remained on the scene several hours after the crash. Roads were shut down well into the afternoon as investigators worked to piece together the chain of events along the busy business corridor lined by fast-food restaurants, strip malls and gas stations two miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

A police officer who was fueling his vehicle at a nearby convenience store watched as the car appeared to lose control and bottom out on a downward slope before leaving the pavement and slamming into the bus stop, according to police Sgt. Richard Strader.

"First responders said they smelled alcohol, and he even said something to the effect that he had been drinking," Strader said.

The vehicle, which came to rest in a fast-food restaurant parking lot, was so mangled that authorities initially had difficulty determining its make and model.

The driver has a collapsed lung and possibly a broken back, according to police.

Meltzer said some of the victims were dismembered. The bus stop was flattened and its roof landed 15 feet from the spot where the structure once stood. Newspaper stands and concrete littered the scene.

"It's so tragic because this is preventable," Meltzer said. "This person made a choice" to drive under the influence.
The four deaths brought the number of people killed in traffic accidents in Las Vegas police jurisdiction to 83 this year.

Woman Gets 3-Years For Drunk Driving

Allison Smolinski, 23, was convicted of aggravated driving under the influence earlier this month and given 3 years in jail.

It's believe she was involved in at least three separate traffic accidents in less than an hour. In her drunken stupor, she hit two cars, on on highway I-290, and one on a back road, before crashing her car into a Wheaton family's home. Prior that that, there was a rollover accident on highway I-355 where witnesses stated there was a driver "swerving all over the road."

Smolinski ended up in the hospital with a neck injury, and the passenger who was with her left with only a gash on his head after the ordeal.

Though she was given a 3 year sentence, if well behaved she only has to serve 85% of her time in jail. Though if you ask me 3 years isn't even enough. She's just lucky she didn't kill someone.

Drunk Driver Tweets Before Killing Everyone In Vehicle

21-year old Ervin McKinness was driving drunk with four other people in his car -
23-year old Marquell Bogan, 23-year old JaJuan Bennett, 20-year-old Dylan George, and 21-year-old Jonathan Watson.

He ended up running a red light and crashing his car, killing everyone inside. Though the real kicker isn't just that he was driving drunk, but texting while driving drunk. And to take it one step further, he was updating his twitter with the post:

"Drunk af going 120 drifting corners  YOLO."

YOLO, of course, being the ever obnoxious "you only live once" slogan that has become everyone's excuse for doing incredibly stupid things - taken a little too literally in this case. It's not an excuse for being an idiot. And there's never an acceptable excuse for driving drunk.

Drunk Driver Pocket-Dials 911, Leading to Own Arrest

A 47-year-old man in Tacoma, Washington mistakenly pocket-dialed 911 not once but twice while driving drunk in what police said was a suspected stolen car. They soon caught up with him and arrested him.
Police are not releasing his name until he is charged, but say he is homeless.
The first 911 call came at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  Police said their dispatcher heard a screaming woman in the background and a man telling her to stop. According to Tacoma police, the call was traced to a street where officers saw a car run a red light.
Police tried to pull the car over. The driver did stop momentarily, and the woman passenger got out of the car and ran. The man then drove away, with police in pursuit.
Police say the suspect eventually stopped the car and ran on foot. A police dog on the scene was unsuccessful in finding the man. The vehicle, registered in Vancouver, Wash., allegedly contained several shaved keys, which led police to believe it was stolen.
“The vehicle is registered in Vancouver, but belongs to a woman who goes to school in Tacoma,” said Mark Fulghum, public information officer for the Tacoma Police Department. He said she did not even know her car was gone until police woke her up to tell her what happened.
At approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, the same cellphone dialed 911 again, leading police to trace the call a second time. When they arrived, they say they found an intoxicated couple sitting inside a different vehicle than the one that ran the red light the night before.
The man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and violating a no-contact order, but only booked for the no-contact order, which had been issued after a complaint by the woman with whom he had been riding.  She was arrested as well on outstanding warrants.
Police said the man did not realize that his phone had dialed 911 either time, but according to Fulghum, the cellphone contract was not active and the phone could only dial emergency numbers.

Red Bull Heir Beyond Blood-Alcohol Limit

In this photo taken Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, Vorayuth Yoovidhaya, right, and mother Daranee, pay last respects in front of the coffin of Sgt. Wichian Klinprasert, a police officer who was killed in a hit-and-run accident at a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand. Vorayuth, 27, a grandson of the creator of the Red Bull energy drink has been arrested for driving a Ferrari that struck a police officer and dragged his dead body down a Bangkok street in an early-morning hit-and-run, police said. Thai police are pressing drunk driving charges against the Red Bull heir.

BANGKOK — Thai police said Thursday they would add drunken driving to the charges against a Red Bull energy drink heir accused of killing a police officer while speeding in his Ferrari and fleeing the scene.

Tests taken in the hours after Monday's crash showed 27-year-old Vorayuth Yoovidhya's blood-alcohol content was 0.063 percent, exceeding the legal limit of 0.05, said Police Lt. Col. Wiradon Tubtimdee.

Vorayuth was summoned to hear the new charge of drunken driving, which could result in a stiffer penalty if he is convicted. Police charged him already with causing death by reckless driving and escaping an arrest. He has not yet reported to police to hear the new charge, according to Wiradon.

Vorayuth's lawyer has said his client was not drinking before the accident.

"I understand that after the crash and his surrender, Boss drank that night to relieve his tenseness ... but he did not drink before the incident happened," family lawyer Samak Chaowapanant told the Bangkok Post, referring to Vorayuth by a nickname.

Police said Vorayuth admitted he was driving the Ferrari that struck the officer's motorcycle but said the officer swerved in front of his vehicle.

Witnesses said the Ferrari dragged the officer's body down the road before speeding away, but police followed oil streaks at the crash site into the gated estate of late Red Bull founder Chaleo Yoovidhya, one of Thailand's wealthiest men before he died this year. The sports car had a badly dented bumper, scuffed hood and cracked windshield.

Forensic scientists attempted to calculate the speed of the Ferrari using footage obtained from nearby closed-circuit cameras that showed the vehicle coming on Bangkok's Sukhumvit Road before it crashed with the motorcycle.

"We will need more footage at different spots to be more precise, but right now it's certain that the car was coming at more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour," said Sathon Vijarnwannaluk, a forensic expert on the investigation team.

Police have said they will conclude their investigation by the end of the month and forward it to prosecutors for court proceedings.

Bangkok police commissioner Comronwit Toopgrajank on Thursday expelled a local police superintendent who attempted to cover up the crime by turning in the family's driver, instead of Vorayuth.

The Yoovidhya family was ranked the fourth richest in Thailand this year by Forbes magazine with a net worth of $5.4 billion. They own a wide range of businesses, including shares in the energy drink brand, hospitals, real estate and a sole authorized importer of Ferrari cars in Thailand.

Possible Jail Time For Refusing A Breathalyzer Test

Cops are cracking down! If you thought you could get away with driving buzzed or drunk by refusing to take a breathalyzer test, think again! In Allen County if you refuse to take a breathalyzer test, they'll get a search warrant and draw blood from you instead - from the county jail. Judges and lawyers equipped with fax machines can now get a warrant for a blood test within twenty minutes.

“There were two people who would have refused over the weekend who then went ahead and agreed to the Breathalyzer after hearing they would have to have a blood draw,” said Deputy Prosecutor Michael McAlexander.

For those who plan on refusing the search warrant and not getting blood drawn, they have two options: They'll be charged with resisting law enforcement -or- they'll be taken in front of a judge for a contempt of court hearing (which, if cited, can lead to 180 days in jail).

Hopefully these harsher consequences will keep drunk drivers off the road.. and maybe someday these will be standard practices in every state!
