Kamal Kaur
and Balbir Singh, of East Palo Alto, were out walking their dog in Melno Park,
California, when they were struck from behind by a vehicle. Kaur and Singh had
three young children who were not with them at the time of the accident.
The
driver of the vehicle, Marjorie Reitzell, was still in her car when the police
arrived on scene, and was taken to Stanford Hospital where it was determined
that she was driving under the influence of alcohol. Reitzell hit Kaur and Singh before swerving
across the road, hitting another vehicle, and finally hitting a tree. Nobody in
the car other car was injured, although the couple who were hit died at the
scene. Reitzell will be tried for gross
vehicular when she is released from the hospital.
