5K MADD Walk To Raise Drunk Driving Awareness

In Charlotte VA, Mothers Against Drunk Driving had its annual 5K walk to raise awareness against drunk driving and the tragic consequences it ensues.

There were around 10,000 alcohol-related accidents in North Carolina in 2013, 1,000 of those took place in Mecklenburg County. The walk is a great opportunity for the community to be involved in a campaign against drunk driving.

MADD is looking to raise at least $40,000 from this years walk. Hundreds of people participated in the event, either running alone, or pacing themselves in teams. It was a great way to honor those lost and injured as a result of drunk driving.

“Our walk is about walking to eliminate drunk driving. We want individuals to know that if their plans include alcohol, to please include a non-drinking, designated driver. Those are the steps we want individuals to take,” said Laronda Scott, state executive director, MADD.
