Gone Too Soon

New college graduates of UC Berkeley, Milanca Lopez and Jose Lumbreras were involved in an unfortunate car crash after celebrating their newly received degrees. In this accident, both Milanca Lopez, and her 6 yr. old son were killed when an intoxicated Jose crashed into a tree at 65 mph.  It was reported that Lumbreras’ blood alcohol level exceeded 2x the legal limit, at .16%, while Milanca’s alcohol level was .11%. Both Milanca and Jose weren’t wearing seat belts and while the child did wear a seat belt, he wasn’t put in booster seat as suggested for his age and size.
The parents of Milanca Lopez are hoping to bring more attention to this case by highlighting Jose Lumbreras’ employment at UC Berkeley in hopes for more information.
Both students had goals to continue their education, and tackle the careers of their dreams; it is really saddening to think that one decision changed their plans.
