Twenty Years


On February 16th, Will Wilson Heaton, 24, fled the scene immediately after colliding with 19-year-old Emily Bowman causing a traumatic brain injury that would leave Ms. Bowman needing lifelong care.

Later investigations revealed that Heaton had consumed over a dozen drinks the night of the collision with Bowman. Heaton was indicted on 13 counts, including driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries.
He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, divided in two, the first ten years will have the culprit in confinement. Immediately following the first half of his sentence, Heaton will be requires to serve the rest of his sentence on probation, with random drug and alcohol tests in the process.
Debbie Bowman, Emily’s mother, had this to say, “This has definitely been a journey, and it’s uprooted our lives,” and “Dale and I are working together to make this work, and as for what’s happened here today, I guess it is what it is.”
