New Mexico Couple Pushes for Harsher DWI Punishments


After being struck by a drunk driver while seven month pregnant, Aileen Smith is urging the state to toughen the laws for reoccurring DWI offenses. Ramon Hernandez, who hit Smith and killer her unborn son, had four prior DWI offenses on his record. 
The Smith story is the inspiration for the governor’s latest push for stricter drunk driving laws. Someone who has had four past DWI’s should not be behind the wheel; they should be spending more time in prison. Aileen and her husband refuse to give up their fight for stricter drunk driving laws in the state of New Mexico.
