Mother's Against Drunk Driving is pushing a change to a current law in Delaware that would make consequences for first-time drunk driving offenders worse. The new law is asking to enact new terms for the law already in place dealing with ignition interlocks.
Currently, ignition interlocks are only required of first-time offenders with a blood alcohol level of .15 or above and all second-time offenders. The new law MADD is proposing would make ignition interlocks an option for any first-time drunk driving offenders, even without a .15 blood alcohol level. The Delaware State Representative, Steve Smyk, and other government officials are pushing the alternative to what MADD is proposing, which would instead be a mandatory 90-day license suspension to any first-time drunk driving offenders.
