MADD has awarded Illinois with their prestigious 5-Star
rating for excellence in drunk driving prevention. The state continues to be
recognized for pushing tougher drunk driving laws and working with
MADD-Illinois to improve prevention programs.
One of the programs, Breath
Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID), is a big contributor into Illinois’
high rating compared to other states. The BAIID program requires all first-time
drunk driving offenders who meeting certain requirements to install the
breathalyzer equipment into their vehicle. The equipment makes it impossible
for the vehicle to start if the operator is under the influence of alcohol.
