Hamilton Township, located in New
Jersey, received a grant of $4,400 to help catch drunken drivers in the area
around the Labor Day holiday weekend. Over the course of Labor Day Weekend
2011, 138 people were killed around the US in car accidents involving drivers
with a blood alcohol content level over the legal limit.
The grant given to the
Hamilton Township was used in an effort to keep the roads safe and to enforce
taking public transportation or having a designated driver. Last year’s
crackdown had a positive turn out and resulted in over 1,000 arrests for
driving under the influence. The grant helped to add extra patrols around the
area. With each community around the country pitching in, we can help crack
down on drunken driving as a nation.
