In 2009, Miami Beach police arrested jut fewer than 1,300
people for DUI. Last year, only a mere 492 people and this year they are only
projected to arrest about 442 people.
Sadly this isn’t because Miami has been
cracking down on drunk driving but because, according to the Miami Herald,
“MBPD reorganized patrol zones, and officers now forgo actively enforcing DUI
laws in order to respond to other crimes.” In other words, they have better
things to do. Although arrests there and in other parts of the county have gone
down, the number of car crashes has remained the same.
