A veteran motorcycle officer of the LAPD was killed in an
accident while on duty. The other drive in the accident is suspected of driving
under the influence of cocaine at the time of the crash. Chris Cortijo had been
with the department for 27 years and had made more than 3,000 arrests for DUIs
over the course of his career.
Additionally, Cortijo was previously a member of
the United States Marine Corps and was a recipient of the LAPD office of the
year award two times. The driver, 33-year-old Qaneak Shaney Cobb, plead not
guilty to a felony DUI charge.
