John Groves was driving recklessly
and speeding, according to the Jacksonville Beach police. Groves had a blood
alcohol level of 0.33 when he hit and killed Honda Accord driver, 27 years old,
Bloneva Palmer.
Groves was cut from his car after
the accident. He was immediately transferred to UF Health Jacksonville, where
he was declared dead shortly after being airlifted there.
The man had a history of previous
arrests. In 2007 he was arrested for careless driving and leaving the scene of
an accident. In 2012 he was apprehended for a DUI in Jacksonville Beach, after
leaving a bar and driving without his headlights on. His blood alcohol level
was 0.21 that time; nearly three times the legal limit.
Mr. Groves was required to go to DUI
School after his arrest, and was forced to pay a fine.
