Impaired Drivers Courses Gain Popularity

This year, the FCPD along with the Forest City Youth Council will be hosting the “Safe Roads Safe Home For The Holidays” event. The Forest City Police Department uses the DWI course to raise awareness on the effects and consequences that driving under the influence can have not only on teenagers but also adults.

One of the objectives of the course is to drive a gold cart through cones arranged to form a course. Teens and adults alike will have to wear specially designed “impairment goggles” which simulates the effects of alcohol on the body. Lieutenant James Hopped had this to say: “The Forest City Police Department uses the DWI course to raise awareness to the effects of alcohol on teens and adults by simulating how alcohol adversely affect the mental and physical abilities.”

Safe Kids of Rutherford County will be giving free safety checks during the duration of the event in order to inform parents on how kids seats should be correctly strapped and avoid improper installation.
