November 17th Is Red Ribbon Day

In support of a national initiative by MADD, the town of Cochrane has declared November 17th the official Red Ribbon Day for the town. First responders, representatives of MADD and Taxi for You are all joining forces in order to promote awareness about the dangers of drunk driving.
This year, the new campaign aims to target the upcoming Holiday Season because socially, it’s the busiest time of the year and statistically speaking, there are more reports of drunk drivers and accidents on the streets.

It’s the first time such a campaign has taken place in Cochrane through the MADD group already located in Calgary. The group details how there are 65,000 Canadians impacted by impaired driving and on average, four Canadians are killed with 175 being injured each day.
Al Lyon, who helps spearhead MADD in Cochrane, said the red ribbons will also be available from countertop dispersers at various locations in town and donations are optional.
“The ribbons aren’t just for vehicles,” he pointed out. “They can be tied to backpacks, purses, key chains and even, as he pointed to me, camera straps and bags.”
