Erin Cox, captain of the North
Andover Volleyball team, thought she was making the right decision when she got
a call from her friend asking to be picked up because she was too drunk to
drive. Little did Cox know she would be suspended for five games and lose her
title of captain.
Despite being sober, Erin was summoned to court by the Boxford
police when they arrived at the scene of the underage drinking. The Cox family
has filed a lawsuit against the school in hopes of reversing the school’s
decision. Her mother, Eleanor, says Erin is “fragile” and “worried about her.” Cox’s attorney released a statement saying the school district is sending out
the wrong message by summoning Erin. This case basically says underage people
are better off driving drunk rather than calling a sober friend to pick them
up.
