Mothers Against Drunk Driving recently held their 31st candlelight vigil at Smithfield High School. Over 300 friends, family and victims were in attendance; some directly impacted and others just showing their support. As attendees waited in line to share their heart-breaking stories, tears were shed throughout the room.
Steven G. O’Donnell, of the state police, shared that 24 people were killed in Rhode Island last year just from drunk driving, which happened to be the same number of murders in the state. The officer pleaded that teenagers understand the consequences and hear the messages that were shared because drunk driving needs to be stopped.
