Fort Gordon soldiers recently had the chance to go through a variety of drills put on during Fort Gordon's annual Safety Stand Down Day in order to imitate the sobering effects of being arrested for drunk driving.  This event was aimed to stress the importance of Safety Awareness.
Riding a bike while wearing “drunk goggles” were among one of the many exercises that were carried out at this event which took place in Augusta, Georgia.   These “drunk goggles” essentially simulate how one would see if operating a vehicle while under the influence.  They have specially cut lenses which throw one's visual perception off while wearing them.  Sgt. 1he had a hard time pedaling a bicycle in a circle marked with street cones.  He failed to keep a steady grip on the bike's handlebars and swerved off the course many times - which just goes to show how challenging it is to operate a vehicle while under the influence.  1st Class Shawn Owens recalled that he had a hard time pedaling a bicycle in a circle marked with street cones.  He failed to keep a steady grip on the bike's handlebars and swerved off the course many times - which just goes to show how challenging it is to operate a vehicle while under the influence.
