Former New York police detective Kevin C. Spellman was sentenced to
three to nines years in prison for killing a woman in 2009 while driving
drunk. Spellman was convicted of second degree manslaughter after
hitting a pedestrian as she crossed the street.Friends and family of the victim,
sixty-six-year-old Drane Nikac say that the sentence was too light and
that the former detective received special treatment. “Being a police
officer, you get a discount,” said John Dushaj, Ms. Nikac’s son-in-law.
