New 2015 Laws Aim To Crack Down On Drunk Drivers

New DWI laws have come into effect for the New Year in Louisiana. The new law has first-time drunk driving offenders facing a minimum of a $300 fine, as well as 10 days in jail.

State Representative, Wesley Bishop, stated, “With the change in this particular law, you have a situation in which 10 days goes from being the fix number of days to being the minimum number of days. So now it goes from 10 days to possibly six months as it relates to jail time.”

The new laws now will now have a higher fine for a higher blood alcohol content and more time behind bars.
