In Charlotte VA, Mothers Against
Drunk Driving had its annual 5K walk to raise awareness against drunk driving
and the tragic consequences it ensues.
There were around 10,000
alcohol-related accidents in North Carolina in 2013, 1,000 of those took place
in Mecklenburg County. The walk is a great opportunity for the community to be
involved in a campaign against drunk driving.
MADD is looking to raise at least
$40,000 from this years walk. Hundreds of people participated in the event,
either running alone, or pacing themselves in teams. It was a great way to
honor those lost and injured as a result of drunk driving.
“Our walk is about walking to eliminate drunk
driving. We want individuals to know that if their plans include alcohol, to
please include a non-drinking, designated driver. Those are the steps we want
individuals to take,” said Laronda Scott, state executive director, MADD.
