In 2007, Mike Brown was on his way to a golf tournament when
his van was hit head on by a drunk 19-year-old in a truck. Brown’s wife was
told he would probably pass away before he even made it to the hospital.
That day ended Mike’s career and crushed the hopes of ever
being able to play with his 6-year-old twins again.
The driver already had a prior case, but he didn’t even go
to prison. Just a five-year deferred sentence and thirty days in the county
jail. But while he was on probation for Brown’s case, the driver received
another DUI.
Mike’s wife, Charlene Brown, speaks to groups but feels she’s
fighting a losing battle. “They’re not getting get,” says Charlene, “It doesn’t
just affect the drunk driver or who they hit, it affects their family, so many
people, it’s not just one person it affects.”
