On June 11 the Denver Broncos’
director of pro personnel was charged with a DUI. This is the second time a
member of the Broncos’ personnel was charged with a DUI. His crime occurred a
mere month after he was hired by the Broncos (he had previously worked for the
Philadelphia Eagles, and more recently the Cleveland Browns). The second member
of the personnel to be convicted was Matt Russell, who was coincidentally
arrested a few weeks later.
These
staff members are facing potential fines and NFL suspensions. Both the team and
league are attempting to supply more resources to prevent these acts from
happening. In a recent interview, Heckert reluctantly said “I am truly sorry and take complete
responsibility for this situation.” The former general manager claims that he
will take every measure to prevent this from happening again and to regain the
trust that he has lost.
