Man Arrested While Driving Drunk -- On A Horse

If Florida on Monday, 29-year-old Charles Larkin Cowart led police on a half-hour drunken chase. But it wasn't a car he was driving, but a horse!

Police took very careful consideration when dealing with the situation and did everything they could to not spook the horse and worsen the situation.  They used their lights to stop traffic, but kept their sirens quiet. 

Police ordered Cowart to get off the horse several times, to which he, "in an aggressive manner reared the horse back" and continued to run with the horse. He did eventually jump down and then took off on foot, but was captured just a short time later.

Cowart was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest without violence and cruelty to animals. Earlier this month he was also arrested for petty theft, as well as a DUI in October of 2010.


But don't worry -- the horse was returned to the Cowart's home and is doing just fine!

Drunk Driver Hits 8 Cars

Jorge Silva-Santana, 46, of Peoria, was arrested for driving northbound on a southbound road in Phoenix. After colliding with the first four vehicles, he managed to keep going and hit three more further up the road, and then further up once more which is when his car stopped and caught fire.

Silva-Santana was tested under suspicion of a DUI and was discovered to have almost three time the legal limit of alcohol in his system. 

Among the DUI, he was also charged for various traffic violations including endangerment. 

Another example of an irresponsible driver putting others in danger by selfishly driving drunk.

4 dead, 8 injured after suspected drunk driver plows into bus stop in Vegas

LAS VEGAS –  A Las Vegas man faces four counts of driving under the influence resulting in death after his speeding car rolled over Thursday and plowed into a Las Vegas bus stop, killing four pedestrians and injuring several other people.

The Thursday morning crash killed three women and a man waiting at the bus stop, police said. Three others at the stop and five people in the car were injured.

"It's a pretty horrific scene out here," Las Vegas police officer Laura Meltzer.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. PDT when the car went out of control and left the roadway as going through an intersection.

"The vehicle began to roll over as it struck a total of seven pedestrians sitting on/near a bus bench," police said in a release

Driver Gary Lee Hosey Jr., 24, was hospitalized in serious condition. Police said Thursday night that he was booked in absentia on four counts of DUI-death.

The dead -- women ages 47, 49, and 65, and a 24-year-old man -- were all Las Vegas residents but their names were being withheld pending notification of relatives, police said.

In addition to Hosey, four passengers in his car and three others waiting at the bus stop were also injured. Police said one person suffered minor injuries, while the others were hospitalized with injuries ranging from serious to critical.

At least some of the occupants had to be removed from the vehicle, police said.

Debris and sheet-covered bodies remained on the scene several hours after the crash. Roads were shut down well into the afternoon as investigators worked to piece together the chain of events along the busy business corridor lined by fast-food restaurants, strip malls and gas stations two miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

A police officer who was fueling his vehicle at a nearby convenience store watched as the car appeared to lose control and bottom out on a downward slope before leaving the pavement and slamming into the bus stop, according to police Sgt. Richard Strader.

"First responders said they smelled alcohol, and he even said something to the effect that he had been drinking," Strader said.

The vehicle, which came to rest in a fast-food restaurant parking lot, was so mangled that authorities initially had difficulty determining its make and model.

The driver has a collapsed lung and possibly a broken back, according to police.

Meltzer said some of the victims were dismembered. The bus stop was flattened and its roof landed 15 feet from the spot where the structure once stood. Newspaper stands and concrete littered the scene.

"It's so tragic because this is preventable," Meltzer said. "This person made a choice" to drive under the influence.

The four deaths brought the number of people killed in traffic accidents in Las Vegas police jurisdiction to 83 this year.

Woman Gets 3-Years For Drunk Driving

Allison Smolinski, 23, was convicted of aggravated driving under the influence earlier this month and given 3 years in jail.

It's believe she was involved in at least three separate traffic accidents in less than an hour. In her drunken stupor, she hit two cars, on on highway I-290, and one on a back road, before crashing her car into a Wheaton family's home. Prior that that, there was a rollover accident on highway I-355 where witnesses stated there was a driver "swerving all over the road."


Smolinski ended up in the hospital with a neck injury, and the passenger who was with her left with only a gash on his head after the ordeal.

Though she was given a 3 year sentence, if well behaved she only has to serve 85% of her time in jail. Though if you ask me 3 years isn't even enough. She's just lucky she didn't kill someone.

Drunk Driver Tweets Before Killing Everyone In Vehicle

21-year old Ervin McKinness was driving drunk with four other people in his car -
23-year old Marquell Bogan, 23-year old JaJuan Bennett, 20-year-old Dylan George, and 21-year-old Jonathan Watson. 

He ended up running a red light and crashing his car, killing everyone inside. Though the real kicker isn't just that he was driving drunk, but texting while driving drunk. And to take it one step further, he was updating his twitter with the post:


"Drunk af going 120 drifting corners #FuckIt YOLO."


YOLO, of course, being the ever obnoxious "you only live once" slogan that has become everyone's excuse for doing incredibly stupid things - taken a little too literally in this case. It's not an excuse for being an idiot. And there's never an acceptable excuse for driving drunk.
