In the not so distant future, we may be
seeing alcohol prevention being taken to new heights as the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers look
to drive out drunk driving.
The researchers working under the programs
developing these technologies are currently working on ways for cars to read
blood alcohol levels through the skin of the driver. The new technology could
potentially sense the driver’s drunkenness through levers or starters. We could
see this technology within the next eight to ten years.
